Where
Loonshots
are Born

A private lab for audacious ideas at the intersection of AI, biology, space, and the multiverse โ€” ideas too important to ignore, too strange to fit anywhere else.

01 โ€” What

Not a think tank.
Not a startup studio.
A loonshot laboratory.

Origin

The Name

Door number 1640 โ€” the Hill Valley address where Dr. Emmett Brown slipped, hit his head, and accidentally invented the flux capacitor. The ultimate loonshot: an unplanned collision that bends time. (Those who dig deeper will also find that 1640 was the decade of Galileo, Descartes, and Torricelli. The universe is layered like that.)

Philosophy

The Method

Ideas here are hybrids โ€” seeded by books (from Loonshots to quantum biology), popular fiction (such as Back to the Future, 3 Body Problem, Project Hail Mary), and original ruminations that refused to stay quiet. Every idea lives at the intersection of the rigorously researched and the genuinely untested.

Audience

For Whom

Solo thinkers, founders-in-waiting, writers looking for a thesis, and curious minds who've been told their ideas are "too ambitious." This is precisely the right place for those ideas.

02 โ€” Modes

Four ways to
work an
idea

A loonshot is not a single thing โ€” it is a seed that can grow into a product, a startup, a novel, a manifesto, or simply a lifelong intellectual companion. At 1640 Labs, every idea moves through modes, not stages.

01
Generate

Unleash raw, unfiltered ideas. No feasibility filter. No market fit check. Just the signal, undiluted.

02
Ideate

Cross-pollinate. Find the intersection of AI and biology. Ask what space travel means for identity. Let concepts collide.

03
Analyse

Apply rigour. Map the landscape. Who else is thinking this? What is the counter-argument? What would make this real?

04
Shape

Decide the form. Product concept, startup thesis, fiction premise, non-fiction angle, or a living idea to return to.

03 โ€” Domains

The fields.
The frontiers.

D.01 Artificial Intelligence Emergent behaviour, consciousness substrate, the economics of post-AGI value creation Active
D.02 Biology & Synthetic Life CRISPR futures, longevity as infrastructure, life as an information architecture problem Active
D.03 Space & Civilisation Fermi's silence, long-arc civilisation design, the physics of colonisation Active
D.04 Multiverse & Foundations Many-worlds implications, simulation hypothesis, the hard problem at scale Incubating
D.05 Wildcard Intersections Ideas that belong to no domain and therefore to all of them simultaneously Open

Ideas in progress

Every entry is a live idea โ€” part hypothesis, part provocation. Some will become products. Some will become books. Some will just stay here, getting sharper over time.

Biology ร— Behaviour

The Bio-Reductionist Translation Agent

Every human narrative โ€” spiritual, political, moral โ€” is a UI layer masking ancestral code. This project strips that layer to expose the evolutionary imperatives underneath: status, kin selection, resource security. A systematic audit of why we really do what we do.

Fiction ร— Geopolitics

The Superman Geopolitical Simulation

What if a god-like actor โ€” one man with unlimited power โ€” tried to fix the world? Nuclear proliferation, dictator governments, nationalism, AI risk, climate change. The simulation asks: can a single omnipotent individual solve anything, or does the system always win?

Biology ร— AI

The Master Human Betterment Blueprint

A civilisation-scale design problem: eradicate hunger, trauma, and disease โ€” while preserving the neurochemical conditions that make life worth living. How do you eliminate suffering without eliminating striving? The dopamine problem at the scale of a species.

Wildcard ร— Strategy

The Wallfacers Council Realised

Inspired by Liu Cixin's Three-Body Problem: what would it look like to design a real human strategic framework that operates beyond the reach of surveillance and predictive AI? A thought experiment in cognitive sovereignty โ€” and a potential product architecture.

Quantum Biology ร— Machine

The Quantum Ouroboros

A closed-loop civilisation at quantum scale. Two self-replicating systems โ€” biological life and machine manufacturing โ€” coupled by a consciousness interface where thought triggers instant creation. At the quantum level, the boundary between organism and machine dissolves. The system has no outside, no origin point, and no off switch.

AI ร— Authorship

The Authorship Problem

Who owned the idea first? In the age of AI, that question has no answer yet. This track is building one.

6 concepts in ideation โ€” each one a loonshot in progress
05 โ€” Outcomes

Where ideas can land

Track A โ€” Commercial 🚀

The Startup Seed

Ideas with product potential, a credible TAM, and a founding thesis. Not a pitch deck โ€” a conviction. For when the loonshot has commercial mass.

Track B โ€” Fiction 📖

The Novel Premise

Hard science fiction grounded in real speculation. Scenarios where the idea becomes a world. A character who lives inside the problem.

Track C โ€” Non-Fiction ✍️

The Essay or Book

Ideas that deserve rigorous long-form treatment โ€” articles, manifestos, books, or research essays that put a stake in the ground.

Track D โ€” Community 🔮

The Conversation

Finding the other 12 people in the world thinking about the same strange thing. Connections that become collaborations that become movements.
